Julio Petilon, MD, is a spine surgeon at Spine Center Atlanta.
Dr. Petilon specializes in herniated discs, degenerative disease of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
His career began after he earned a medical degree from Boston-based Tufts University. He completed an internship at the Portsmouth, Va.-based Naval Medical Center, and then served as a flight surgeon for a training squadron of F-18 pilots. He cared for the entire squadron and logged hundreds of flight hours.
Dr. Petilon then completed his residency at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth before becoming the head of orthopedics at the Naval Hospital in Sigonella, Sicily. He completed his fellowship at Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Leatherman Spine Center.
He then returned to the Naval Hospital at Portsmouth and served as an orthopedic spine surgeon, before he accepted a tour in Afghanistan in 2012.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Petilon enjoys cooking, running and travel.
