E. Claiborne Irby Jr., MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at Richmond-based OrthoVirginia.
Dr. Irby specializes in thoracic and lumbar spine surgery. He has practiced at OrthoVirginia since 1987, when the practice was called West End Orthopaedic Clinic. He has been named a Richmond Top Doc in 2004 and 2013 and serves as assistant clinical professor at Richmond-based Virginia Commonwealth University's Medical Center.
Dr. Irby is affiliated with the North American Spine Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Richmond Academy of Medicine and many more organizations. He previously served as associate director of the Medical Society of Virginia and was a also a board member of the Richmond Academy of Medicine.
After graduating from Richmond-based Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Irby interned at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk and completed his orthopedic residency at Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolina Medical Center. He then underwent spine fellowship training at Houston-based Baylor/St. Luke's Hospital.
