Michael Lee, MD, is a board certified orthopedic spine surgeon at University of Chicago Medicine.
Dr. Lee is an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at UCM, where he has taught courses on the surgical treatment of complex spinal tumors and minimally invasive surgery. He specializes in spinal injuries, degenerative conditions, spinal deformity and complex tumors of the spinal cord. Dr. Lee has taught courses on the surgical treatment of complex spinal tumors and minimally invasive spine surgery to medical students, residents, fellows and practicing surgeons.
He received his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. He underwent fellowship training at Chicago-based Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital. Dr. Lee is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, AO Spine North America, Lumbar Spine Research Society, North American Spine Society, Washington State Medical Association and Washington State Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Lee is the principal investigator for several research studies, working to identify risk factors for postoperative lumbar spondylolisthesis, enhance lumbar spine surgical techniques and create models to predict the likelihood of postsurgical complication.
Dr. Lee has published more than 150 book chapters, abstracts and journal articles on spine conditions and surgical treatments. He serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals and has received grants to support his research. Dr. Lee has been invited to present his work at national and international conferences. In 2013, Dr. Lee was selected as a Best Doctor in America by Best Doctors.
