Shay Bess, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon at Denver International Spine Center at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center.
Dr. Bess received his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. He underwent pediatric and adult spine surgery fellowship training at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Dr. Bess is actively involved in research on scoliosis and other spine conditions. He is the president of the International Spine Study Group Foundation, a nonprofit, multicenter research foundation that investigates treatment outcomes for people with scoliosis and other spine disorders. He is a member of the Scoliosis Research Society, North American Spine Society, Congress of Neurosurgeons and serves on the faculty for the AO Spine Foundation.
His research has been extensively published in several scientific journals. Dr. Bess is actively involved in medical mission work as a surgeon for the Ethiopia Project and other charity efforts that provide spine care to children in Ethiopia, Ghana and Colombia.
