Robert Bray Jr., MD, is a spinal neurosurgeon who is well known for his work with minimally invasive spine surgery.
His interest in spine surgery developed while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was chief of neurosurgery at the David Grant Medical Center in Fairfield, Calif., and later he launched the Institute for Spinal Disorders at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. There he built a spine program and decreased the average post-surgery stay from 5.8 to 1.8 days.
He started working with minimally invasive procedures before they were common in the industry. Dr. Bray used minimally invasive techniques on athletes and earned himself the nickname "Dr. FIx-It."
Dr. Bray founded DISC Sports & Spine Center in Newport Beach, Calif., and the center is recognized for its leadership in minimally invasive spine surgery.
