Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Jonathan Hyde of South Florida Spine Institute

Jonathan A. Hyde, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon providing care at the South Florida Spine Institute in Miami Beach, Fla. He is also a clinical assistant professor of orthopedics at Florida International University in Miami. He is a member of the executive board of the Society of Lateral Access Surgeons, and is currently participating in research on eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion.

Dr. Hyde has an active interest in spinal instrumentation. He is a national and international teacher of the kyphoplasty, eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion and AxiaLIF techniques, and is a member of SI-BONE's surgeon advisory board. He was one of the three designers for the dbrII minimally invasive pedicle screw system. He also contributed the chapter on degenerative disc disease in the first textbook written about XLIF surgery, published in 2008. He recently joined Doctors Mobile Healthcare's medical advisory board.

 

Additionally, in 2008, Dr. Hyde performed the nation's first AxiaLif 2L, a two-level percutaneous lumbar fusion system at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.

 

Dr. Hyde focuses on both open and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and he has given lectures on spine surgery in the United States and in Europe.

 

Dr. Hyde earned his medical degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook (N.Y.). He completed his residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, N.Y., and a fellowship in spinal surgery at Plano-based Texas Back Institute. He was also selected to represent the Texas Back Institute in a five-month traveling fellowship at the University of Nottingham in England at the Centre for Spinal Surgery.
