Dennis P. Devito, MD, is a pediatric orthopedic spine surgeon with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. He joined the practice in 1991 and currently runs the spine program. He has previously served as the director of multispeciality clinics at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Academy of Pediatrics and Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.
Dr. Devito became one of the founding members of ASAMI-North America, now known as the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society. He has expertise with the VEPTR device used to treat complex chest wall deformities seen in congenital scoliosis and early onset scoliosis. He has received the Health-Care Innovations Heroes award for his work in this area. Additionally, Dr. Devito has presented at a number of national and international meetings on scoliosis and related conditions, pediatric trauma and complex limb reconstructive surgery. His research interests also include the effect of pedicle screw fixation on global spinal balance in scoliosis and lateral condyle fractures in children.
Dr. Devito is actively involved in humanitarian efforts. He serves as a board member of Children's Cross Connection International and has traveled to Central America on numerous occasions for charity work. He is the founder of a non-profit foundation — the International Pediatric Spine Mission, Inc. — which helps fund the care of underprivileged children.
Dr. Devito earned his medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. Also, he has completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at Children's Hospital of Boston.
