Spine surgeon leader to know: Dr. Julius Fernandez of Semmes-Murphey Clinic

Julius Fernandez, MD, is a neurosurgeon at Semmes-Murphey Clinic in Memphis and an assistant professor at Knoxville-based University of Tennessee's department of neurosurgery. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He also has candidate membership to the Scoliosis Research Society, which is pending.

Dr. Fernandez focuses on complex spine surgery, high-grade spondylolisthesis, neurosurgical trauma, revision spine surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, kyphosis, general neurosurgery, deep brain stimulation and minimally invasive spine surgery. He also has a professional interest in developing a nationally recognized surgery center at the Semmes-Murphey Clinic devoted exclusively to spinal deformity surgery.

 

Dr. Fernandez earned his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, and completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Tennessee-Memphis. Additionally, he has completed visiting clinical fellowships with David Kline, MD, of Baton Rouge-based Louisiana State University, in complex peripheral nerve surgery; and Lawrence Lenke, MD, of Washington University in St. Louis, in spinal deformity surgery.
