James L. Chappuis, MD, is founder, owner and CEO of Atlanta-based Orthopaedic & Spine Surgery of Atlanta, also known as SpineCenterAtlanta. He also opened SpineCenterSavannah in Savannah, Ga. He also serves as a clinical instructor with Georgia Regents University in Augusta, and has staff privileges at the Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and North American Spine Society.
Dr. Chappuis has an active interest in development of spinal instrumentation, and has been issued U.S. Utility Patents for the Doppler Retractor, Flexible Tap Apparatus and Method of Use and Facet Fusion System, among others. He also actively conducts research and his current projects include pain relief from removal of pedicle screws after successful lumbar fusion.
Dr. Chappuis' work has been published in numerous professional journals, including Spine and Journal of Spinal Disorders and Techniques. He co-authored a book titled, "Doctor I’m Scared, A Concise & Practical Guide to Reducing the Fears of Surgery." He has also been featured in numerous articles. Additionally, he has a great deal of interest in art and founded the Westside Cultural Arts Center.
Dr. Chappuis earned his medical degree at Medical College of Ohio in Toledo and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Memphis-based Campbell Clinic/University of Tennessee. He has also completed an AO Spine Fellowship in Germany.
