Joan O'Shea, MD, is a board certified neurosurgeon at The Spine Institute of Southern New Jersey in Marlton. Dr. O'Shea is also trained in orthopedic spine surgery.
Dr. O'Shea founded The Spine Institute of Southern New Jersey in 2001, where she specializes in elective degenerative treatments such as minimally invasive lumbar fusions and cervical artificial disc replacement surgery. In 2005, Dr. O'Shea opened the The South Jersey Surgical Center in Mt. Laurel, the first spine ASC in Southern New Jersey.
She is dually trained in neurosurgery and orthopedic spine surgery and underwent orthopedic spine surgery fellowship training at the New York City-based Hospital for Joint Disease and The Spine Institute of New York at Beth Israel Medical Center.
She has been the invited lecturer at the annual American Association of Neurologic Surgeons meetings since 1996, teaching neurosurgeons how to perform lumbosacral fusions. She is an active member of the Medical Society of New Jersey and the Camden County Medical Society, American Medical Association, Neurological Association of Spine Surgeons, American Academy of Neurosurgeons and Women in Neurosurgery.
Dr. O'Shea received her medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.
