Robert Ryu, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at Columbus, Ohio-based Orthopedic One.
He became interested in spine surgery as an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley, according to a video profile on the center's website. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed a residency at Ohio State University in Columbus.
Dr. Ryu completed a spinal surgery fellowship at Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Spine Center. His training includes minimally invasive surgery, cervical and lumbar disc arthroplasty, and robotic-assisted spine surgery.
Dr. Ryu also served as a medical officer and F-16 flight surgeon in the United State Air Force and the Ohio Air National Guard.
In the video profile, he said the most rewarding aspect of the job was watching patients experience the immediate recovery of procedures.
