Here are 10 spine surgeons to know:

Robert Banco, MD. Boston Spine Care Group. Dr. Banco has been honored as a top doctor by Boston Magazine since 2018. He's an associate clinical professor at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.

Peter Bono, DO. Michigan Spine and Brain Surgeons (Southfield). Dr. Bono received his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and completed his residency at Farmington Hills, Mich.-based Botsford General Hospital. His specialties include herniated disc surgery, spinal stenosis and spine disorders.

Tim Burd, MD. Nebraska Spine and Pain Center (Omaha). Dr. Burd is an orthopedic spine surgeon focusing on adult degenerative spine care and pediatric injuries. He received his medical degree from Omaha-based Creighton University School of Medicine and completed residencies at Columbia-based University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics and St. Louis-based Shriners Hospitals for Children.

William Bruck, MD. Carrell Clinic Spine Center (Dallas). Dr. Bruck specializes in cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine disorders, along with athletic spine injuries. He's a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the North American Spine Society.

Thomas Cartwright, MD. KSF Orthopedic Center (Houston). Dr. Cartwright specializes in treating spine problems that come from trauma or degenerative disease. His interest in medicine was sparked when he had a job restocking anesthesia carts at Houston Northwest Medical Center as a teenager.

Henry Pool, MD. Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates (Greensboro, N.C.). Dr. Pool's special interests are in complex spinal surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia and completed his residency at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Anuj Singla, MD. University of Virginia Health (Charlottesville). Dr. Singla specializes in pediatric spine surgery with clinical interests including scoliosis, spinal deformity, spinal stenosis and spine trauma. He received his medical degree from Nagpur, India-based Government Medical College and completed a residency at Mumbai, India-based KEM Hospital.
