Spine surgeon leader to know: Regis Haid Jr. of Atlanta Brain and Spine Care

Regis Haid Jr., MD, is a spine surgeon at Atlanta Brain and Spine Care and the new president of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.

Dr. Haid received his medical degree and completed his residency at West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown where he was class president. He served in the United States Air Force at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, from 1989-1993.

He co-founded Atlanta Brain and Spine Care in 2003 and served as medical director of Atlanta-based Piedmont Spine Center. A renowned surgeon and educator, he has been a visiting professor at 30 universities globally, a course director more than 280 times, lectured at more than 200 spinal courses and presented more than 500 papers. He's a prolific author of scientific articles, textbooks and chapters.

Dr. Haid was named AANS' new president in April. He's a former chair of the Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves and served on the board of directors of the Think First Foundation, Foundation for International Education in Neurological Surgery and the International Meeting of Advanced Spine Techniques.
