A recent study published in The Journal of Spinal Disorders & Techniques examined the flexible microblade shaving system for spinal decompression.
There were 59 patients diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis recruited for the study. The patients underwent decompression with the flexible, microblade decompression system. There were a total of 88 levels between L2 and S1 operated on, with 51 percent being single-level and 49 percent being two levels.
The surgeons found operative time, blood loss and length of stay were similar or less than reported in the historical control. Additional findings include:
- The system was successful for decompression in 95.8 percent of attempted foramina.
- Three dural tears were reported, occurring before the introduction of the flexible decompression system.
- CT scans showed access to the lateral recess and foramen with removal of less than 6 percent of the superior facet cross-sectional area.
