Sacramento, Calif.-based UC Davis Medical Center's Ripul R. Panchal, DO, spoke on his hospital's latest advancements in spine surgery, according to MD.
Here are five highlights:
1. Dr. Panchal is currently researching integrated cages, emphasizing how different implants impact corpectomies.
2. Instead of using plate and cage systems, Dr. Panchal is beginning to use a spacer plus cage integrated system. He and his colleagues are researching the screw systems associated with these integrated systems.
3. Dr. Panchal is also focused on performing minimally invasive surgeries.
4. UC Davis Health is conducting a trial for new technology on how they put in their screws during surgeries, utilizing navigation technology.
5. Dr. Panchal noted he mostly sees patients with degenerative spine issues, but with increased used of multiple fusion devices they will treat more patients with adjacent segment disease.
