Alexander Ghanayem, MD, of Maywood, Ill.-based Loyola University Medical Center department of orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation has treated Maywood fire chief Tracy Kenny who had suffered from leg, hip and back pain for over a decade.
Here are five things to know:
1. Chief Kenny says that the pain eventually caused her to lose feeling on her left side and develop bladder problems.
2. Dr. Ghanayem found that one of Chief Kenny's lower back discs had ruptured and was pressing on a nearby sack of nerves.
3. He removed the harmful piece of herniated disc.
4. The operation relieved Chief Kenny's pain and dysfunction, as she has reported no deficits since the procedure and says that she is completely pain-free.
5. Dr. Ghanayem chairs Loyola's department of orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation and is the division director of spine surgery.
