Enid, Okla.-based Integris Bass Baptist Health Center is ending its neurosurgery program and transferring any neuro patients to Oklahoma City, according to the Enid News.
Here are five things to know:
1. The hospital provided current patients with a letter stating Integris Bass Baptist Health Center was discontinuing neurosurgery services as of Nov. 1 and asks patients to schedule all postoperative procedures as well as surgeries with Integris Neurosurgery in Oklahoma City.
2. Integris reportedly decided to end neurosurgery services at the hospital for financial reasons, according to the director of foundation and business development for Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. The costs associated with neurosurgery require higher volume than what the hospital was bringing in.
3. State budget uncertainty also played a role in the decision to cut neurosurgery services in addition to potential rate reductions in 2018.
4. After ending the neurosurgery program, Integris plans to reallocate expenses for new service lines, including 3D mammography and medical oncology. The hospital is also working to reallocate the staff associated with the neurosurgery service line into new positions.
5. St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center will continue to offer neurosurgery services in Enid.
