Neurosurgeon Sanjiv Bhatia, MD, died May 24.
Dr. Bhatia was a board-certified pediatric neurosurgeon and an associate professor of clinical neurosurgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He also practiced at Holtz Children's Hospital in Miami and Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Coral Terrace, Fla. At NCH, he served as chief of the surgery department, director of the operating room and fellowship director.
Dr. Bhatia focused on intractable epilepsy, brain tumors, vascular malformations, spinal dysraphism, neuroendoscopy in the surgical management of hydrocephalus and intracranial arachnoid cysts, pediatric peripheral nerve injuries and congenital central nervous system malformations such as spinal bifida.
He received his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. Dr. Bhatia frequently traveled to Haiti to operate on hydrocephalic children at Bernard Mevs Hospital in Port-au-Prince.
