Cesar Borlongan, MD, along with four other physicians from Tampa-based University of South Florida, were appointed to the National Academy of Inventors' 2019 class of senior members, reports St. Pete Catalyst.
Four things to know:
1. Dr. Borlongan is a professor and director of the center of excellence for aging and brain repair and professor of neurosurgery at USF Morsani College of Medicine.
2. He holds 16 patents and specializes in stem cell therapy for stroke.
3. Dr. Borlongan's translational bench-to-clinic research culminated in five FDA-approved clinical trials of cell transplantation including a cell therapy product for stroke patients.
4. Together the five scientists have 63 patents that range from neuroscience to pharmaceutical chemistry.
