Michael Gallizzi, MD, of Vail, Colo.-based The Steadman Clinic, has completed his 100th endoscopic spine surgery, five months after he performed his 100th robotic spine surgery, Vail Daily reported Oct. 17.
Many spine surgeons specialize in either robotic spine surgery or endoscopic spine surgery, but Dr. Gallizzi plans to combine the two procedures.
"Being able to merge endoscopic techniques with robotics in the next step," Dr. Gallizzi told Becker's Spine Review.. Using the robot as a targeting mechanism and then passing the endoscope through the robot to be more accurate with some of our disease pathology treatments will be a game changer.
Dr. Gallizzi brought the ExcelsiusGPS spine robot to The Steadman Clinic when he joined the practice in March. He aims to make the practice a destination for surgeons to train with the technology.
