Becker's has reported on five spine and orthopedic "firsts" since June 1.
1. Armen Khachatryan, MD, of The Disc Replacement Center in Salt Lake City completed the first cases with the Motus lumbar total joint system as part of a clinical trial.
2. Theodore Blaine, MD, a shoulder and elbow surgeon at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery, has performed the world's first implantation of a stemmed elliptical head prosthesis for anatomic shoulder replacement surgery.
3. Themistocles Protopsaltis, MD, performed his first DualPortal endoscopic spinal surgery at NYU Langone Health in New York City.
4. Kamaldeep Momi, MD, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in neck and spine procedures, has performed the world's first procedure using Altus Spine's lumbar standalone interbody fusion system at the Fellowship Surgical Center in Mount Laurel, N.J.
5. Peter Ramsey, MD, completed the first artificial intelligence-assisted hip replacement in March. Dr. Ramsey, of OrthoSC in Myrtle Beach, performed the procedure March 22 using the OrthoGrid system, a spokesperson for the practice said in a July 17 email to Becker's.
