Matthew Hefner, MD, a neurosurgeon at Willis-Knighton Health System in Shreveport, La., has become the first surgeon in the region to offer the ExcelsiusGPS navigation system for minimally invasive spine surgery, according to a July 28 report from the Bossier Press-Tribune.
The Excelsius system streamlines the surgical workflow, reduces radiation exposure and allows for smaller incisions, less tissue damage, quicker recovery and less postoperative pain.
"I am very excited to offer this technology to continue to provide superior care to our patients in Shreveport-Bossier and beyond," Dr. Hefner told the Press-Tribune. "The addition of the ExcelsiusGPS to the Willis-Knighton robotics program shows we are dedicated to staying up-to-date with the most current technology and providing an unparalleled patient experience."
