How Dr. Hardeep Singh uses 3D printing in his practice

Spine

Hardeep Singh, MD, is one of few spine surgeons globally who is taking advantage of 3D-printed devices to help patients, according to a Sept. 7 feature from the University of Connecticut.

Dr. Singh works with the UConn Health’s Comprehensive Spine Center in Farmington, and he's the first surgeon in the state to use Carlsmed's Aprevo for a multilevel lumbar spinal fusion. The device is patient-specific, and Dr. Singh worked with Carlsmed to design the implant based on his patient's imaging.

"The benefit is that it is customized to the patient’s anatomy and prevents any undue stress on the vertebral bodies as would be the case with standard implants," Dr. Singh said in the feature. "Before even entering the operating room, you have a visual of what the ultimate result will look like and this gives you the ability to modify the plan according to the patient’s needs."
