Northwest Health-Porter (Ind.) has been selected as a Blue Distinction Center for spine surgery by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Indiana, according to an Oct. 10 report from NWI Life.
Blue Distinction Centers are healthcare facilities that are nationally recognized for their commitment to patient safety and healthcare outcomes. Facilities are ranked on objective measures developed by Blue Cross Blue Shield with input from the medical community.
To receive the designation, Northwest Health demonstrated expertise in cervical and lumbar fusion, cervical laminectomy and lumbar laminectomy/discectomy procedures, and had fewer patient complications and hospital readmissions compared to other hospitals.
Additionally, hospitals awarded the distinction are 20% more cost-efficient on average compared to other hospitals.
Northwest Health also holds Blue Distinction honors for hip and knee surgery, maternity care and cardiac care.
