Atrium Health earns Joint Commission's gold seal for spine surgery

Spine

Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center has received The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for advanced certification in spine surgery.

It is one of 15 hospitals in the nation that holds the distinction, according to an Oct. 24 press release sent to Becker's. Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord, N.C., also holds the designation.

The Gold Seal recognizes organizations that show a commitment to patient safety and quality care.

The certification focuses on the surgical flow process, from pre-surgical spine consultations through hospital admissions, the surgery experience, rehabilitation activities and follow-up visits with staff.

To maintain the certification, each center is required to submit quarterly outcome data, progress reviews and, every two years, undergo a full review of services to ensure compliance.

The Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with healthcare professionals and providers, measurement experts and patients.

The Atrium facility underwent an in-person review as part of the recertification, including collaborative design, implementation and evaluation of the spine program and alliance of interdisciplinary teams.
