Augmedics has treated its 5,000th patient using its Xvision spine system, the first augmented reality system to gain FDA approval for surgery.
The news follows a big year for Augmedics, in which the company saw the launch of its first artificial intelligence application and earned $82.5 million in Series D financing.
The 5,000th case was performed by Andrew Sama, MD, co-chief of spine and associate attending orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
In 2022, HSS became the first in New York State to use AR navigation for spine surgery, according to a Dec. 23 press release.
Dr. Sama has performed over 100 cases using the Xvision system and utilizes Augmedics for nearly all his thoracolumbar procedures, according to the release.
