Gregory Poulter, MD, completed Indiana's first spine surgery with eXperiential Reality technology at Indianapolis-based OrthoIndy.
The XR technology from Surgical Theater incorporates the SyncAR spine platform and Microsoft HoloLens headset, the company said in an April 17 news release. OrthoIndy is one of five sites worldwide using the technology.
Dr. Poulter completed a spinal fusion using the technology. He lauded its ability to assist with minimally invasive procedures and its precision.
"Both the patient and I can view the plan," he said in the release. "In the operating room, I can easily switch my view between the actual surgery and the XR guidance in the headset, ensuring constant focus on the procedure."
