Scoliosis Research Society honors multiple spine surgeons

The Scoliosis Research Society named recipients for its Lifetime Achievement Award, 2024 Walter P. Blount Award and 2024 Biedermann Innovation Award.

Charles Johnston, MD, and Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei earned the Lifetime Achievement Award, according to a Sept. 12 news release. Dr. Johnston is a professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and a reviewer for The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and the Journal of Children's Orthopaedics. He has more than 150 peer-reviewed papers and about 30 book chapters.

Dr. Boachie-Adjei earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his residency at Hospital for Special Surgery, both in New York City. He's won multiple national and international humanitarian and philanthropic awards. 

Richard Hodes, MD, earned the Walter P. Blount Humanitarian award. He started a spine practice with Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei and has lived and worked in Ethiopia for more than 35 years. Since, the practice has seen more than 1,600 surgeries.

Marcus Mazur, MD, earned the 2024 Biedermann Innovation award for research on robotic cervical management. He was awarded $50,000 over two years.
