Texas Spine Consultants experiences cybersecurity incident: 7 notes

Dallas-based Texas Spine Consultants recently experienced a cybersecurity incident involving patient information. 

Seven notes: 

1. The practice detected unusual activity in an employee email account on May 13.

2. An investigation into the matter determined that certain patient data contained in the email account was accessible by an unauthorized actor.

3.The information involved in the incident included names, dates of birth, medical information, and health insurance information.

4. The practice said in a notice on its website that the information involved in the incident did not include patient social security numbers, driver’s license numbers or financial information.

5. TSC said it is notifying all potentially affected patients. 

6. Texas Spine Consultants submitted the incident to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights Breach Portal Sept. 26. 

7. The incident affected 8,048 individuals, according to the breach portal
