John A. Jane Sr., MD, professor and director of the neurosurgical training program at University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, received the Governor's Award for Career Achievement, according to an Augusta Free Press report.
The award recognizes an individual who has a record of sustained professional achievement and has improved operations in Virginia.
Dr. Jane focuses on general neurosurgery, spine and pediatric neurosurgery. He previously served as chairman of the department of neurosurgery at UV School of Medicine. He founded and served as editor for Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine and Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics.
Dr. Jane has authored or coauthored more than 300 research articles. He is also known as the care provider for actor Christopher Reeve after his spinal injury in 1995, according to the report.
