Here are twelve spine surgeons or neurosurgeons who recently received awards.

The North American Spine Society presented its 2017 Recognition Awards:

• Leon Wiltse Award — K. Daniel Riew, MD, of New York City-based Columbia Orthopaedics
• Henry Farfan Award — S. Tim Yoon, MD, PhD, of Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare
• David Selby Award — William Mitchell, MD, of Mount Laurel Township, N.J.-based Coast Spine Center
• Spine Advocacy Award — David A. Wong, MD, MSc, FRCS, of Denver Spine Surgeons

 

The North American Spine Society awarded 2017 Research Grants:

Harvinder Sandhu, MD — Clinical, $46,550, "A Prospective, Double-Blind, Randomized Control Trial of Postoperative Acetaminophen versus Ketorolac in Lumbar Spinal Fusion"
Erik S. Anderson, MD, PhD —Young Investigator—Translational, $43,875 year one only of a two-year grant, "Identifying Molecular Determinants of Local Control After Radiation Therapy to Spinal Metastases from Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLS)"
lker Hacihaliloglu, BSC, MSc, PhD —Young Investigator—Basic, $46,905 year one only of a two-year grant, "Real-Time Non-Radiation Based Navigation Using 3D Ultrasound for Pedicle Screw Placement"

 

The North American Spine Society awarded 2017 Traveling Fellowship awards:

Mohammed Hassan Ibrahim Mahboub, MD, of Portland-based Oregon Health & Science University; Los Angeles-based University of Southern California; Dallas-based UT Southwestern Medical Center, $7,169
Abduljabbar Alhammoud, MD, of Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute; New York City-based Hospital of Special Surgery; Chicago-based Rush University, $5,500

 

Israel P. Chambi, MD, has been named a 2017 Top Doctor in Santa Ana, Calif. In practice for 40-plus years, Dr. Chambi specializes in brain tumors, aneurysms, epilepsy, scoliosis, spine deformities and degenerative disc disease.

 

Donald R. Gore, MD, earned recognition as a 2017 Top Doctor in Wisconsin. He completed his biomechanic fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.

 

American Health Council honored Glenn G. Taylor, MD, of Waterbury, Conn.-based Neurosurgery, Orthopedics & Spine Specialists, as "America's Best Doctor." He specializes in orthopedic surgery, complex and revision spine surgery, trauma, general orthopedics and sports medicine.
