Harvey Leventhal, MD, 90, died March 6 in Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center, according Staten Island Live.

Dr. Leventhal was among the first physicians to use CT scans and MRI machines in Staten Island, N.Y. He earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in New York City and completed his residency at Yale New Haven (Conn.) Hospital.

After opening a private practice in Staten Island, Dr. Leventhal partnered with two other surgeons to form Concord (N.H.) Neurological and Neurosurgical Associates. There the group installed the first CT scan equipment on Staten Island. The practice is now known as Healthcare Associates in Medicine.

Dr. Leventhal was a clinical professor at New York University Medical Center in New York City. He served as president and chairman of the Medical Malpractice Committee within the Richmond County Medical Society. He also spent time as a U.S. Navy medical officer.

He was a leap-year baby, who frequently celebrated the fact. He jokingly told anyone who asked he was 22-and-a-half years old, and his family frequently held grand parties every leap year.
