The first procedure with Medacta's M.U.S.T. LT system was recently performed by Stephen Tolhurst, MD, at Texas Back Institute in Plano.
The long tab screw system is Medacta's latest minimally invasive solution for posterior spine fixation in the percutaneous approach. It is intended for use in degenerative spine cases.
The system offers surgeons the choice between fast-locking screws — applicable in various degenerative cases — and an extended reduction capacity, a key factor in lumbar spondylolisthesis or thoracic kyphosis restoration, according to the company.
"The cortico-cancellous thread pitch offered great bony purchase," Dr. Tolhurst said April 29 of the surgery. "I enjoyed the slim profile of the screw towers and instruments, which facilitated a very minimally invasive approach, while maintaining robust and easily usable instrumentation."
