Brian Gantwerker, MD, has received the North American Spine Society's Spine Advocacy Award.
Dr. Gantwerker has been a member of NASS for 15 years and works as a neurosurgeon at the Craniospinal Center of Los Angeles in Santa Monica, Calif. He's been involved on the society’s advocacy council, legislative committee and political engagement committee. He's also moderated and served as a representative at several NASS advocacy events.
"My receipt of the advocacy award will, I hope, show other surgeons and physicians that we have agency in our fate — and that we need to believe in our ability to effect change, to reverse the tide of cookbook medicine and bad healthcare policy and to push back against the monopolization of healthcare by entities and agencies that have no interest in patient care or their outcomes," Dr. Gantwerkertold Becker's.
