After two weeks out with a neck injury, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones will undergo an MRI on Dec. 13 at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, Fansided reported.
Four things to know:
1. Mr. Jones will consult with Frank Cammisa, MD, chief emeritus of HSS Spine, who specializes in minimally invasive spinal surgery, athletic spinal injuries and motion-preserving procedures, such as artificial disc replacement.
2. Dr. Cammisa is also the spine consultant for the NHL Player Association, which saw two of its players undergo disc replacement procedures for spine conditions in the past month.
3. On Nov. 12. Jack Eichel of the Vegas Golden Knights became the first active NHL player to have a disc replacement. Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson had the same procedure Dec. 3.
4. As cervical spine implants develop, many spine surgeons believe disc replacement will overtake spinal fusion to become the standard of care for treating many conditions in the cervical spine.
