Hooman Melamed, MD, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, performed a pro bono anterior lumbar interbody fusion on world champion surfer Joey Hawkins, according to an Orange County Register report. Dr. Melamed specializes in spine trauma, minimally invasive surgery, scoliosis and degenerative conditions of the spine.
He currently practices at DISC Sports & Spine Center in Marina del Ray, Calif.
