Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Hayley Queller, MD, a sports medicine physician at Orthopedic Associates of Long Island in East Setauket, N.Y., testified at a congressional hearing this past week on the importance of concussion awareness among young athletes, according to a Times Beacon Record report.

The hearing was held by the House Education and Labor Committee's subcommittee on healthy families and communities with the goal of ensuring children can continue to participate in sports safely.

Dr. Queller and her colleagues drafted a concussion management protocol she would like established at high schools. The program includes community-wide education, baseline neurocognitive testing and treatment before athletes return to the game.
