Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City honored William R. Salomon, honorary chairman of Citigroup, in celebration of his 100th birthday and also gave Jo A. Hannafin, MD, director of Orthopedic Research at HSS, the Lifetime Achievement Award at its Annual Tribute Dinner.
Mr. Salomon has had a long-standing relationship with HSS and has served as a board member for more than 35 years. He has served with the U.S. Army Air Forces and also volunteered with various nonprofit boards during his career in investment banking.
Dr. Hannafin focuses on sports medicine and is orthopedic director of the Women's Sports Medicine Center at HSS. She is currently head team physician for the Women's National Basketball Association New York Liberty. Last year, she became the first female president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
The event, which hosted more than 1,000 guests, raised $3.6 million for education, research and patient care at HSS.
