Texas state Sen. Charles Schwertner, MD, a practicing orthopedic surgeon, has been tapped to head the state Senate Health and Human Services Committee, according to The Texas Tribune.
Dr. Schwertner practices at Little River Healthcare's Georgetown (Texas) Orthopedics. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and member of the Williamson County Medical Society and Texas Orthopaedic Association. He completed his orthopedic surgery training at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
Dr. Schwertner also serves on the state's Sunset Advisory Commission, which is currently reviewing ways to improve the state's various health agencies. He has also been appointed to the state Senate Finance Committee, according to the report.
