Midwest Orthopaedics Physician Shares Trends in Bicep Injury Treatment

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Shane Nho, MD, a physician with Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush in Chicago, recently shared his expertise on trends in treating bicep injuries in an article for the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, according to a practice news release.

Current studies report no statistically significant difference in function or patient satisfaction between biceps tenotomy and tenodesis, though the surgical treatments were shown as statistically successful.

The trends Dr. Nho noted include:

1. Both surgical options can now be performed arthroscopic.
2. Review authors seem to agree that the two surgical options should be used in younger, active patients.
3. The first line of treatment for LHB tendinopathy is a variety of nonsurgical options, such as rest, anti-inflammatory drugs, activity modification and physical therapy.
