David W. Altchek, MD, of Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, performed shoulder surgery on Cleveland Cavaliers' star forward Kevin Love, reports ESPN.
- Mr. Love was injured while playing in the first-round playoff series against the Boston Celtics.
- He underwent surgery for an acute anterior inferior glenohumeral dislocation with the corresponding ligament/labrum tearing and humeral head bone bruising.
- Mr. Love's recovery period will be four to six months.
- His recovery period means he won't return for the NBA playoffs. The Cavaliers are preparing for the second round games over the next week.
- Dr. Altchek is the medical director for the New York Mets and a medical consultant for the NBA among his position as an orthopedic surgeon at HSS, among other sports medicine positions.
