The most common injuries around the holidays are soft-tissue shoulder injuries, such as tendonitis, labral tears and torn rotator cuffs, Hospital for Special Surgery physicians said in a Newswise report.
Orthopedic sports medicine and shoulder surgeons often see a spike in office visits the Monday after Thanksgiving due to injuries from recreational activities, according to the report. The risk is higher in patients who are older or newly active recreational athletes.
Most soft-tissue shoulder injuries are treated conservatively with physical therapy. Nonsurgical treatment for tendonitis, rotator cuff and labral tears also includes anti-inflammatory medication, rest and in-office Cortisone injections.
