Dr. Mark Lavallee to serve as sole weightlifting team physician during Pan Am Games: 4 things to know

Mark Lavallee, MD, CSCS, FACSM, of York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health will serve as the sole team physician for the American weightlifiting team for the upcoming Pan Am Games, according to Fox 43.

Here are four key notes:

1. Dr. Lavallee is also a powerlifter himself and said working with Team USA for the last 20 years has been his career highlight, according to the report.

 

2. Dr. Lavallee also told Fox 43 that the challenge in the job is pushing the athletes while also keeping them safe.

 

3. Dr. Lavallee is also chairman of the USA Weightlifting Federation's Sports Medicine Program.

 

4. Currently, Dr. Lavallee also serves as director of York Hospital's sports medicine fellowship program and previously served as director of Memorial Hospital's Sports Medicine Institute in South Bend, Ind.
