$2.5M donation will endow MIT director of sports medicine position — 5 highlights

Cambridge-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology's department of athletics, physical education and recreation received a $2.5 million gift that will be used to endow the department's director of sports medicine position, according to MIT News.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. The donation was made by Walter Price, MIT Class of 1970, and will establish the Walter C. Price '70 Family Director of Sports Medicine at MIT.

 

2. Mr. Price graduated from MIT with a degree in electric engineering and was a three-time letterwinner in wrestling and co-captain of the 1969 to 1970 wrestling team.

 

3. Mr. Price is currently the managing director of Allianz Global Investors U.S., located in San Francisco.

 

4. The donation will allow MIT to add an additional sports medicine professional to the Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation staff to improve the unit's ability to preserve the experience of injured students as well as to provide timely access to sports medicine healthcare.

 

5. The position will be open at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.
