James Andrews, MD, is meeting with Zack Wheeler of the New York Mets and Rubby De La Rosa of the Arizona Diamondbacks after both have experienced elbow issues, according to USA Today and CBS Sports.
Here are five thoughts.
1. Mr. Wheeler experienced discomfort in his right elbow after his first rehab start.
2. Mr. Wheeler is in the process of returning from a past Tommy John surgery. He had just made his first rehab start for Class A St. Lucie. Wheeler was scheduled to pitch again this week, but he has not throw since he experienced the discomfort.
3. Mr. De La Russa had the results of a recent MRI sent to Dr. Andrews for consultation. Mr. De La Rosa injured his elbow in May 2016.
4. Dr. Andrews is one of the founding members of Andrews Institute for Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Fla. He is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the world, and his center is internationally recognized for its sports medicine treatment.
