Every Sunday 1,696 football players suit up and take the field to play a game on the gridiron but for Buffalo Bills' tackle Seantrel Henderson, the battle off the field is of the utmost importance.
Mr. Henderson is battling Crohn's Disease, and the disease is severely affecting his employment, The Buffalo News reports.
Here's what you need to know.
1. Mr. Henderson missed practice Nov. 24, 2016 to watch his son being born and days later he would receive his second suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
2. Mr. Henderson uses medical marijuana — a substance on the NFL's banned substances list — to treating his Crohn's disease. His physicians recommended the treatment.
Mr. Henderson's agent Brian Fettner argued there should be an exemption in the substance abuse policy for medical marijuana use.
3. Mr. Henderson has been fighting Crohn's disease since late last year. He had two surgeries to remove more than 80 centimeters of his intestines because of infection.
4. Mr. Henderson is considering litigation to get back on the field, but his future with the Bills is in doubt, according to NFL.com.
