Here are five orthopedic surgeons who were involved in treating professional athletes in January:

Steve Shin, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at the Los Angeles-based Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, treated Los Angeles Clippers' point guard Chris Paul's torn thumb ligament.

 

After being operated on by George Paletta, MD, of the Orthopedic Center of St. Louis, former St. Louis Cardinals reliever Seth Maness is attempting to become the first pitcher to return to the pros after undergoing UCL repair with internal brace construction.

 

Hand surgeon R. Glenn Gaston, MD, and hip and knee surgeon Walter B. Beaver Jr., MD, presented their research findings related to orthopedic injuries in NASCAR pit crews at the 2017 NASCAR Summit.

 

Payam Farjoodi, MD, an orthopedic spine surgeon at the Center for Spine Health at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley, Calif., said that the unique neck and spinal condition that forced linebacker Zachary Orr's retirement from the NFL occurs in less than 4 percent of individuals.
