Boston Red Sox pitcher and former AL CY Young winner David Price is in the process of scheduling appointments with James Andrews, MD, and/or Neal ElAttrache, MD, for the coming days, according to Mass Live.
Here are five things to know:
1. The surgeons are both currently attending the annual NFL combine in Indianapolis.
2. Mr. Price experienced elbow and forearm soreness after pitching a two-inning simulated game on Monday, Feb. 27.
3. He underwent an MRI on Wednesday, March 1, and both he and the Red Sox hope to receive a second opinion in the coming days.
4. Mr. Price has experienced elbow and forearm soreness in previous spring trainings but expressed concern that the current pain is more intense than he is accustomed to.
5. Both orthopedic surgeons are considered leaders in the sports medicine field. Dr. Andrews founded Birmingham, Ala.-based Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center and Dr. ElAttrache practices at Los Angeles-based Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.
