San Antonio-based Methodist Healthcare System has entered into a strategic and healthcare partnership with Spurs Sports & Entertainment, a group headlined by the San Antonio Spurs.
1. Methodist Healthcare System is the largest healthcare provider in the region.
2. In addition to the NBA's Spurs, the partnership includes activations with the Austin Spurs of the NBA Development League, San Antonio FC of the USL, San Antonio Rampage of the AHL and the San Antonio Stars of the WNBA.
3. The collaboration will include several community-based initiatives focused on health and wellness education and programming to encourage people to lead active lifestyles.
4. Methodist Healthcare has also partnered with Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio, a practice led by San Antonio Spurs senior team physician David R. Schmidt, MD.
5. Dr. Schmidt, who also serves as president of the NBA Physicians Association said, "We've built our orthopedic and sports medicine practice to offer the very best services to all types of athletes…Aligning with Methodist Healthcare takes Sports Medicine Associates to the next level and will allow us to extend our reach to better serve the community."
