Retired NFL wide receiver Ricardo Lockette met with Washington state lawmakers on Wednesday, March 22 to testify on behalf of the Seattle Science Foundation's neck injury research, as reported by King5.
Here are four things to know:
1. The Seattle Science Foundation is working to create a 3D map of the spine to help physicians learn more about stem cells in relation to the spinal cord.
2. Mr. Lockette retired from the NFL in 2016 after a hit in a 2015 game left him with a concussion, cervical ligament damage and disc damage.
3. Researchers believe a 3D map of the spine may be ready within the next decade.
4. Mr. Lockette has recently served as the initiative's ambassador, helping to promote spinal cord injury awareness and giving the project name recognition in the process.
